GRS Surgery Funding!!!

Hi hi hello!

I'm a 24 year old transmasculine nonbinary person awaiting bottom surgery. Thankfully the Ontario government is covering my surgery, but I gotta travel to Montreal, 6 hours away from home and stay in a hotel for several days! This surgery team is the only one in the entirety of Canada that does the particular procedure I'm getting. I'm also not going to be able to return to work for 4-5 weeks if healing goes as planned. That leaves me $900 short! (I consistently get between $800-$900 per month, yay minimum wage). If I don't have enough vacation pay to cover this, I'll need some help. I'm reviewing and ready to discuss my workplace's medical leave policy with my higher-ups right now.

Either one or two people will be staying in the hotel room with me to assist me in recovery and accompany me to followups with my surgeon. Some sources tell me that hotels will be covered, others say hotels are covered at a special rate, other others say just the pre-op stay is covered. I will be asking the surgery centre as soon as I can get ahold of them!

My goal of $1000 is just a blanket thing, I'm genuinely not completely sure how much everything will cost altogether since hotel rooms could cost more in the future, we'll be needing food and transportation money (unsure if I will be driven or take the train) and since I will be off work for a period of time and therefore won't have any income during recovery (depending on sick leave policy and whatnot). There's plenty of time to plan and change things, so this goal isn't completely solid and could rise or fall. Hurray for waitlists lol. Updates will be provided!
