On Thursday, October 2nd, Julie's water broke, which they did not know until the 4th. On that Saturday she went in thinking she was going to leave that day with medicine for a UTI. Instead, the doctors told her that her water had broke and she was going to be flown by helicopter to UAMS in Little Rock, AR. She has spent the last 31 days living in the hospital on bed rest, trying to keep Kaia in and growing for as long as possible. Kaia has been breach the entire pregnancy, so a c-section was a must. Kaia was originally due January 16th, then they said let's hope for 34 weeks (December 5th). This past week she almost arrived on Tuesday, then again on Thursday, and on Saturday. Today (November 3rd), they told me that it was time because my bleeding was unable to be controlled this past week and her heart rate kept bouncing up and down. Daniel literally arrived 30 seconds before they cut Julie open for the c-section and was able to hold her hand. At 2:55pm, after 31 days of living in the hospital, Kaia Marie Watkins made her debut and Daniel was able to see her before they took her out the room. She is doing well with help from a ventilator. Now we just have to pray that she keeps fighting as hard as she has been this past month. Julie and Kaia will be staying in Little Rock until she is strong enough to go home, so a couple months more than likely. Due to Kaia coming so early, her family needs help. Her nursery isn't ready for her to come hom yet. Julie and Kaia are staying in Little Rock, while Daniel has to head back to work. His work is 4 hours away from Julie and Kaia's hospital. Please help in any way possible. Donations, prayers, thoughts, etc. They appreciate it so much!
Update on Kaia: She is doing ok. She had a blood transfusion last night (November 3rd) and is on a ventilator right now. They are trying to slowly ween her off of the ventilator. She is on antibiotics right now because of her high risk for infection, due to the fact that she didn't have enough amniotic fluid, because of Julie's water breaking over a month ago. Her blood pressure is low, so they are giving her medicine for that right now and watching for improvements. They said it had started to work this afternoon. She can't really handle too much noise either, so commotion around her makes her heart rate climb quickly. The doctors said that anything could happen in the next couple of months and to appreciate the good days and to expect to have some bad days, because she will have some bad days.
