My name is Vince and I'm starting a boutique, rare fruit tree nursery based out of Sacramento, CA called "Food Forest Solutions" with three of my friends: Alex, Dustin, and Michael. The four of us are passionate about growing our own food and have been collecting and growing rare fruit trees for years. It's our dream to be able to use our experience and access to rare genetics to create a nursery like none other in Sacramento.
During the last major storm a few weeks ago, our greenhouse we built was destroyed. We had raised that money over the last year doing plant sales at our homes by selling trees and plants we had propagated over the last couple of years. The construction of the greenhouse was also a very time-consuming endeavor that we put a lot of thought and a decent amount of money into.
Since this incident, we were able to connect with Randy from Root 64 in Sacramento, CA to see what greenhouses he uses and how he anchors and secures them so that something like this doesn't happen again.
We've decided to go with his suggestion and build a Farmers Friend 21'x60' Caterpillar Tunnel Max. A much higher quality and sturdy structure/design that will last for many years, allowing us to propagate a diverse assortment of rare fruit trees and plants for the greater Sacramento area and beyond.
The only downside is the price. For the greenhouse and the two zip-up end walls plus tax, we are looking at just over $6,700.
Any donations would be much appreciated and would go to ensuring that we can effectively produce and curate some of the coolest and rarest fruit trees that will survive in our Northern California climate (zone 9b).
