GRIT DAY Fundraiser Challenge:

We are fundraising Money for two different initiatives which are very near and dear to our heart.

Sport has been a massive vehicle in our families and it has shaped our journey through life and who we have become. It has been massive in facilitating and forging the relationships we have with our parents, how we see the world around us and what inspires us.

My father Norm Plumb was diagnosed with Parkinson's about 10 years ago and it was a huge blow to our family. Since then our father has been present at nearly everything we do related to basketball and chances are if you are in the basketball community you know him or have seen him.

About 3 years ago he joined a Parkinson's boxing group called Rock Steady Boxing group in New West. They often struggle with costs to keep the doors open and we want to raise money to help them with some costs so they can continue to provide the outlet for the people and families of those affected by Parkinsons.

In addition to this youth sport in a passion of mine and ours. We were very fortunate to have great parents who made us want for nothing growing up with relation to access to sport. It not only build me into who I am as well as my brother and Bret but it also helped forge a bond with our families that is unbreakable.

Recently I launched a basketball company called GRIT Performance Athletics in the greater Vancouver area. The majority of kids we work with are kids from the burnaby / greater Vancouver region. Many of whom cannot afford the degree of access to sport they would like. As a result we scholarship a large majority of the kids. What we are looking to do is to create scholarship opportunities and partially as well as fully subsidized program options for young athletes who are not always able to access sport whether it be through our organization or others. We are firm believes in the power of sport and seeing youth not have access to the resources that a lot of us have is heart breaking. No one should be denied this opportunity.  We will be using money to pay for gym rental fees and costs associated with creating these programs as well as donating to school programs to help with the costs in low income areas so that student athletes can have favourable experiences without putting financial strain on their families or at least helping to alleviate some of the costs.

We want to create a safe environment where youth who typically do not have opportunities to pursue high level sport now will.

To raise funds and create awareness for both of these initiates myself, Bret Macdonald and my brother Colin Plumb will be completing the following in 24 hours on September 21:

- Half Marathon
- Grouse Grind
- Coquitlam Crunch x 4
- 500 pushups
- 100 deadlifts at 225lbs
- 100 hang cleans at 185
- 500 made jump shots
- 10 km row
- 10 mins plank hold

As of today (August 29th) we have been training for 3 weeks. We will be documenting the entire day and will post a Facebook page shortly to follow.

If you have any questions or wish to get involved in the initiative please do not hesitate to reach out.

Thank you all!
