Grip is an experimental short film exploring gender, sexuality and identity as a young woman struggles to end an unhealthy relationship.

We are a creative and driven group of 3rd year Filmmaking students at The Northern Film School, Leeds. We are raising money for our graduation film Grip and we need your help to achieve our vision! Check out the video above to find out more about the film and about us!

Synopsis:

Grip is an experimental short film, centered on a young woman’s emotional journey.  Cleo must get to grips with the reality of her relationship with Frank - a man who is 9 years older than her - before she can decide whether to end their relationship. Despite their unhealthy dynamics and his controlling tendencies, Cleo is conflicted by her warm memories with Frank and her fear of what might happen to him if she were to leave. But is this hold over her grounded in love, or is it Frank’s manipulation of his trusting, younger partner?

We see Cleo’s world, both external and internal, through scenes of reality, paralleled with experimental scenes that delve into her mind. The film will explore themes of gender, identity and sexuality through the lens of Cleo’s personal experiences. The audience will follow Cleo’s battle to regain her own autonomy and whether she will be able to free herself from Frank’s grip.
