Griffin's Gender Affirmation Top Surgery

Hey there, I'm Griffin and I'm seeking support to help fund my gender affirming journey for top surgery that is scheduled for 17 July 2024.
A bit about me:
I am a white, transgender, non-binary, queer, neurodiverse, somatic-based mental health counselor who navigates chronic and acute illness.
For the past decade, I have been honored to work directly with and offer support to trans, non-binary, LGBTQIA+, neurodiverse, and disabled folx. I have prioritized making my services accessible and affordable to medicaid-eligible people and to people from historically oppressed communities. A large part of my work has been helping people receive gender affirming care, as I deeply believe access to health care is a birthright. And it is now my turn to ask for support from others to help me access my own gender affirming care.
It feels complex and challenging to ask for financial support, especially since everyone should have the right to access and receive gender affirming care covered by health insurance. Within all the targeted hate and harm, grief and death that is taking place throughout the world, I continue to lean into the importance and necessity of collective care.

Here are the facts:
- Surgery costs $13,000
- I will need to take at least 2 weeks off of work in order to recover from surgery. Since I work for myself, I will not receive paid sick-leave for this time away.
- I am in the process of applying to CO FAMLI+ medical paid leave to subsidize part of my earnings that I won't be making while I am in recovery. This is such an essential new resource for self-employed individuals to be able to access in Colorado.
- I have done extensive research to find health insurance to cover this procedure, and lo and behold, the health insurance that is accessible to me as a self-employed individual does not cover gender affirming top surgery.
