The lynching of Professor Jason Arday has devastated many of us as it is yet another cruel reminder of white supremacy, global anti-Blackness and the dehumanisation of Black bodies that are incessantly hounded to death by the media.

Black Psychotherapy is a Black and Global Majority mental health service based in London and working online, we provide decolonial, intersectional and anti-oppressive counselling and psychotherapy through a politicised, justice-based lens. While we stand in solidarity with Jason’s family, friends and everyone who knew him, we’re raising funds to provide free, culturally responsive grief and crisis support for Black and Global Majority communities affected by Jason’s death.

Funds raised will enable us to offer:

We already provide accessibly priced general and specialist group therapy, but we are not a funded service and we don’t feel comfortable charging communities to process harm that should never have happened in the first place. Jason’s loss speaks to our own intersectional experiences of racism, exclusion, precarious survival, and exhaustion of living in a violent world.

If we raise more than is required to meet the immediate demand, we will use the remaining funds to extend free grief and crisis support to Black and Global Majority people who would otherwise be unable to afford it.

Please prioritise supporting Jason Arday’s family during this heartbreaking time as providing care for them should be a collective priority. For anyone who is able to provide any additional support to us, that would be greatly appreciated and it will make a real difference to us and the communities we support.

We have an initial target of £3600 and we aim to provide 12 virtual group sessions and 22 sessions of 121 crisis counselling.
