Grief and Birth: Joining Camille in Courage
Donation protected
I have known Camille since we were 7-years-old, and she has been consistent in her generosity and kindness. Anyone who is lucky to know her has been lifted up by her empathy, courage, and sense of humor. Now, it's our turn.
Who is Camille? Camille is a warrior, a fighter, a survivor, a compassion-fueled human who asks for little and deserves so much. She is a loving and dedicated daughter who spent the past year being full-time care-taker to her father as he battled Glioblastoma Multiforme IV - a very aggressive type of cancer. She is a super-hero-single-mother to be, to a baby boy, who will be born in April 2021.
In tragic synergy, she lost her father Luis Gervasi on January 9th at 9:19 pm, just months before preparing to welcome her baby boy into the world as a single parent. If you knew Luis and Camille, you know what a sacred and special connection they had as father and daughter.
Camille shares: "My grief and pain are inexplicable, my world feels shattered. There aren't words to describe - I feel shattered and lost. I miss him so much there aren’t even words to describe the emotion. I am so grateful that I could be a part of honoring his wishes and I will continue to honor him through my life."
"Honor" is a word I hear often from Camille when she speaks about her dad. She was honored to be by his bedside, to hold space for his transition, to put her own life on pause as a 27/28/29-year-old woman to be present and alive to this painful and sacred time with her best friend. She will continue to honor her wonderful father by continuing his legacy of compassion, in the way she will raise her baby boy to be gentle and light and firm in his values, in the way she will acknowledge strangers in the street with her kind, inherited eyes. She will build a life that is rich in connections and love and laugher. She will teach her baby boy the *three* languages she is fluent in, so he, like his grandfather and mama, can be a citizen of this world.
Camille's father Luis often said "there is always a way," with the balance of a Zen master.
I know that he is right. There is always a way. The way is community, and I hope you will join us.
Funds raised will help support:
