Help Jill Langer Battle ALS.
Beschermde donatie
It’s humbling to lose some of your mobility that everyone (including me) takes for granted. I was on a trip for the adoption event at the Wheeling Greyhound track in August 2022 when I first started having difficulty walking with my left foot. At first, I was told it was an ankle contracture, but it turned out to be a drop foot. Over the past two years I have fallen numerous times because of the drop foot issue, and I progressively got weaker and need to use a walker and have help with getting dressed, etc.
I was recently admitted to the hospital and subacute rehab for several weeks because I was dizzy. Many tests were performed to try to figure out why I am experiencing progressive focal motor weakness. The dizziness was probably from being dehydrated and my blood pressure was elevated from stress. Many things have been ruled out, but I still don’t have an official diagnosis. I have an appointment with the UofM neurology department in a few weeks to have a specialized EMG test done to try to determine what is going on.
Prior to all of this, my 87-year-old father was diagnosed with dementia about 4 years ago. Being his caregiver has consumed both my and my boyfriend Jason‘s lives beyond measure as we are the only two available to help my father.
Several of my senior greyhounds passed away recently, and their end of life vet care was not cheap (many of you can relate). My hospital and rehabilitation facility expenses total over $5000 out of pocket, despite health insurance. I also need help with paying for some equipment that would help me with my mobility and to make some modifications to the bathroom and other areas of the house so I can remain as independent and mobile as possible. I haven’t been able to work as much as I normally would have been able to in the past. I am truly grateful for any help that you might be able to offer to help make my life easier right now.
Photo memories pop up frequently with all of the greyhounds I fostered (about 200) and transported (about 1,500) from the Wheeling track and different farms in Arkansas and Kansas back to Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Canada. It truly was a blessing to have helped so many retired racing greyhounds on their way to their forever homes. I’m hoping that many of those greyhound friends can help me now in my time of need.
