Hello good friends and people of the internet! Today I'd like to talk a little about Emma, and about Greyboi.
I met Emma back in the spring of 2023 when she applied to foster for me. She had absolutely no parameters on which cat(s)/when/for how long - she was just happy to help me, and help whichever cats I was trying to help, with very few questions or stipulations... basically any rescuer's dream foster. So, needless to say, a few days later, I brought a middle-aged brown tabby named Chloe over to Emma's, and she's been happily, contentedly, quietly taking the best care of her ever since.
Luckily, a short and sweet 7 months later, Chloe is finally going to her forever home this week. With that in mind, Emma mentioned to me a big, sweet, stinky tomcat who had been hanging around her yard, and who she was interested in not only neutering, but adopting! So duh, of course I said yes, and with a quick and easy pull of the trusty drop trap, we had Greyboi inside -- the start of a beautiful life together for him and Emma.
We sent the Greyest of bois to the ASPCA a few days later for the works, but the poor man was rejected for surgery due to a heart mumur. Oof. So, off we went to our good friends at Park Slope Vet Center, who confirmed his murmur suggested an echocardiogram, let us know he's got FIV (which isn't too surprising for a tomcat, but never what we're hoping for), and told us GB would need a dental as well!! He has been meticulously grooming himself with his stinky breath, and therefore his lovely grey coat has a bit of a fishy stench.
A week later, we got back on the road and headed to VERG. Grey's cardiologist cleared him for surgery and so now he'll go on January 17th for his dental/neuter combo day! Huzzah!
The only problem with Grey is that what we thought would be a ~$100 visit to the ASPCA is now $2600 worth of tests and surgery. Greyboi is Emma's boy through and through, and together we will cover whatever he needs to live his best, unscented life , but no one wants to kick off the year with such a hefty vet bill. It *also* happens to be Emma's birthday this week, and I can't think of a better way to wish her the best year ahead than by helping to offset some of these costs. So, if you can spare some change for Greyboi, and for Emma, we would very much appreciate it.
