Surgery for Greta
Donation protected
My black and silver German shephard, Greta, has recently been diagnosed with a large tumor located inside the vertebral nerve canal at the base of her brain. It is a slow-growing mass, but has reached a size that is nearly two-thirds of the canal itself. Excruciating pain has been temporarily relieved with prednizone, but the tumor will soon fill the nerve channel and cause more pain and permanent disablement. She is but 71/2 years old and my constant and only companion.
The neurologist at Washington State University Veterinary School, Dr. Chen-Allen, has reviewed her case and highly recommends surgery and follow-up radiation for what she and her collegues believe is a meningioma tumor. The outlook for her recovery, providing her treatment is soon, is good, with perhaps several years more of the quality of life she has enjoyed in the past.
I am attempting to raise enough capital to cover her surgery ($3,500 - 4,500) and radiation treatment to eradicate any remaining tumor cells ($3,500) as well as transportation to Pullman, WA and living costs in the area during the several weeks required for surgery, recovery, and rehabilitation ($500). We travel full-time in a 5th wheel trailer so those costs are minimal. My income is limited to social security and her previous medical bills have weighed heavily against that income.
Greta's needs are now beyond my ability to provide and she needs help within the next two weeks to return to the happy traveler's life she has always known. We thank you for your interest and for sharing Greta's story.
