Greta needs a Violin

Donation protected

Hello! My name is Greta and I am a violinist without a violin!

HELLO! THIS IS GRETA'S MOTHER WHO POSTED HER DRAFT FOR HER GOFUNDME WITHOUT TELLING HER.
She reached her (I said impossible) goal in less than a day.  Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who donated - I do not even know some of you, but I hope to in the future, and hope you will all follow Greta's progress in finding herself an instrument and seeing how far she can take her violinist dreams.
I am not sure what to do about this fundraiser at this point since it is hers, not mine - but she is not here until next week. I won't change her goal, but I will leave her gofundme up since I understand how uplifting watching the numbers creep up has been for a lot of folks; and I know some people are waiting to donate to see how high it gets.
I still feel that Greta and I need to pay for the largest portion of her new instrument, but any more she gets here will be very graciously received, and gives her some leeway if she finds the perfect Violet which might otherwise be just a few hundred out of reach.
Again, thank you all SO much and I cannot wait for Greta to come back to this and start writing thank you notes :)

I am 13 years old and have played the violin for almost 10 years now. The chances are, if you’re reading this, you have heard me play or you know someone who has. If you want to know more about me, please read my attached bio.

I have rented my violins since I started, but now I need to buy my own full size instrument. I always knew that this day would come, but I didn’t expect to grow so much so quickly over the past year! (Thanks covid! I ate so much that I grew 5.5 inches!)

Violins are very expensive. On average, a good one will range from $15,000-25,000. Many kids my age spend money on video games, or new clothes, but I happily wear clothes from Goodwill and eat Aldi's pizza so we can pay for my lessons. I'm really serious about being a violinist.

I have been working since I was about 8 years old and will be contributing all my savings from my business ventures such as my flower stand, dog walking, yard care, babysitting, and busking. I've donated half of what I have made to charities of my choice, but what I have been able to save will still pay for around a quarter to a third of the cost of an instrument. My mother is able to match that, but I am resorting to imploring my friends, family, and the people that know how much I love to play, to help me raise the last third.

Thank you so much. Love, Greta

BIO

Greta Rubenstein began studying violin at age five, and since then she’s played in orchestras and chamber ensembles, at the MICCA (Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association) Competition, in a fiddling group, at solo recitals, and in airport waiting areas, among other venues. Her teachers have included Gabriel Solomon and MaeLynn Arnold, her violin’s name is Violet, and some of her musical inspirations are Min Kym, Hilary Hahn, and her Aunt Eliza, a violinist and conductor. When she’s not practicing, Greta enjoys science, singing in the Boston Childrens Chorus, Lewis Carroll, volunteering, and spending time with her dog (Arlo, an Australian Shepherd) and cat (Sylvie, a rescue). She’s an honors student in the Medford Public Schools, President of her school’s National Junior Honor Society, and an honorable mention winner in NPR’s 2021 Student Podcast Challenge.
