So there's this guy I've known for a while...we go way back. He started out in the local music scene as a roadie and lights guy. He worked with some guys starting out who now have made a name for themselves in Country Music and helped them pave the local path. Then he moved to playing bass for some awesome musicians and dabbling in promotions too. Oh and all the while he had a career in law enforcement AND raise a family. And most importantly....he's a US Army Veteran. Greg Valdez has been a friend and brother to many and have supported more than anyone knows through playing at benefits and donating time and money, because he's a helper...that's what helpers do.
Now Greg needs our help. He has been diagnosed with Cushings Disease. Basically....Cushings is caused by tumors in the body that send bad hormones to the pituitary gland, which sends them to the adrenal glands producing too much Cortisol. This can cause high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and a red or sometimes purple round face, and can cause damage to the liver. One cure is surgery to remove the tumors, but in some cases radiation is used.
Greg had an MRI done and they found a tumor on his pituitary gland. Doctors are now planning a couple of surgeries to get rid of the tumors. His first surgery is coming up in the next couple weeks. Until he gets a clean bill of help, he is out of work. Once the tumor is removed, improvements will start happening quickly. He is actually a medical miracle right now....with the constantly elevated blood pressure AND blood sugar, doctors are unsure why he hasn't started passing out yet or worse....gone into a coma.
Now Greg has insurance and medical costs are covered, but living expenses will be strained for a little while because of the time that he can't work. This is where all of us that know and love him and his beautiful and amazing wife Kim come into the picture. We need to show Greg and Kim the love that they have shown so many throughout the years. I put the goal amount as $17,000.00 because Greg's lucky number is 17. Let's see how close we can get to that goal to help them with living and traveling expenses during this trying time for this amazing family.
