Greg’s Recovery Fund - Striking Back after Stroke
Donation protected
On the evening of November 8th, Greg was laid up with an ocular migraine. A few hours into it, he began forgetting words and feeling confused. Thinking it was a side effect of the migraine, he decided to go to bed. While trying to do so, his right side got weak and he collapsed onto the bed. At this point, 911 was called. He was taken to the hospital by EMS.
The head CT done in the ER showed that Greg had a STROKE. At 48 years old, with no risk factors, Greg had a left side ischemic stroke in his frontal lobe! After more tests and 3 days in the hospital, Greg was discharged.
The stroke has mainly affected Greg’s communication. He has expressive aphasia which leaves him struggling to transfer his thoughts into spoken or written words. He also has apraxia, which is trouble forming his mouth correctly to say certain words. Greg also has trouble with some fine motor skills such as texting.
So far, the plan is for him to do a ton of outpatient speech therapy, occupational therapy, and a bit of physical therapy. He will also be seeing neurology to hopefully figure out why he had a stroke, as well as his primary care doctor. On the days that he doesn’t have therapy appointments, we will be working on reinforcing everything at home.
The money raised will go towards any medical bills that are not covered by insurance. We will also need to purchase tools that will make communication easier.
Greg has already come so far. He’s improving daily...slowly but steadily. With the love and support of so many...near and far...we will push through until we figure out our new normal...and then keep pushing!!
