Greg Kicks Cancer's A$$

The background:
At the end of January 2019, our friend, Greg Popelier, had a case of bronchitis that brought him to urgent care, which led to an X-ray to check for pneumonia. When doctors unexpectedly saw a nodule on his lung, it prompted the need for a CAT scan, which later led to a week-long hospital stay. On February 6, Greg was diagnosed with monophasic synovial sarcoma, a rare type of cancer made even more rare by its location in his heart. By the time it was found it had metastasized to his lungs.

This was a shock, to say the least.

What’s followed since his diagnosis has been a bit of a whirlwind. He is now under the care of Dr. Araujo, a synovial sarcoma specialist, at M.D. Anderson in Houston. 

The current plan is for him to undergo aggressive chemo treatments with the goal of shrinking his tumors enough to safely remove them through surgery. This will go on for approximately 6 rounds of treatment.

The Popelier fam was hesitant, at first, to let anyone set this up. They are already so grateful for the help that friends and family have been able to provide so far. And they know this is a marathon ahead of them. But, after getting a second opinion in Texas and coming to terms with all this is going to entail for Greg to fight and get the proper care he needs, they've given us the green light and are humbled by how much people want to help. 

Throughout the battle ahead of them, they will be facing medical costs, some of which they're not even sure of yet, travel expenses to get back and forth to Houston and accommodations for the whole family to stay and support Greg during treatments, amongst other costs.

Where you come in:
I am basically operating on the behalf of the whole army of people I know that Greg and Courtney (and the boys) have behind them. It is already so apparent that there are a LOT of people who are so eager to help. So, while I know they don’t want anyone to feel like they have to donate, I (and all of their friends) just wanted to create a space where people can chip in if they’re looking for a tangible way to help.

Greg is a fighter and has so much to live for, so I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say we look forward to standing by his and Courtney’s side as he kicks this thing’s ass!
