Why I’m Asking for Your Support
My name is Gregory Roberson. I’m a former student leader, corporate paralegal, recovery mentor, and the proud author of four faith-based recovery workbooks. I never imagined I would be forced to fight for my basic civil rights in federal court — but here I am, taking a stand not just for myself, but for countless others impacted by systemic injustice in our legal system.
I have filed a federal civil rights lawsuit under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 against the Harris County Probation Department and District Clerk Marilyn Burgess, asserting grave violations of my constitutional rights. These include:
Due Process violations (14th Amendment): I was detained for months without adequate notice or fair hearings.
Cruel and Unusual Punishment (8th Amendment): I was held for 16 months despite completing rehab and fulfilling probation conditions.
Equal Protection violations (14th Amendment): I was denied access to LGBTQ-affirming rehabilitation programs and placed in unsafe, discriminatory facilities.
First Amendment violations: My right to seek redress has been chilled through retaliatory and arbitrary probation changes after filing suit.
This is not just about me — this case exposes patterns of abuse, indifference, and discrimination that devastate lives, particularly among poor, HIV+ LGBTQ+ individuals in Texas' justice system.

How the Funds Will Be Used
Though I’ve chosen to represent myself (pro se) because I believe in the strength of this case, fighting a lawsuit of this scale still requires financial backing. Your donations will go directly toward:
Printing, filing, and court costs (even with IFP status, ongoing litigation incurs real expenses)
Private investigator & expert witnesses
Transportation for court and medical appointments
Secure housing and stability during litigation
Media and advocacy campaign to raise awareness and seek reform
Any surplus funds will be used to support a nonprofit initiative I’m launching: Faith-Fueled Recovery, a resource hub for those rebuilding their lives after incarceration, addiction, and systemic injustice.

My Journey: From Incarceration to Advocacy
I was originally arrested for a non-violent offense. I completed every rehab and court-mandated program — and then some. I sought out additional help through Homeward Bound, a program specifically for HIV+ individuals like me, only to be denied permission to attend due to bureaucratic indifference.
Despite my compliance and significant rehabilitation, I was detained for over a year without bond, without legal counsel visiting me once, and without a proper hearing.
I emerged from that ordeal more determined than ever. I’ve documented everything — and now I’m fighting back.

A Call to Action
If you believe in fairness, in justice, and in second chances — I need your help.
Help me finish what I started. Help me ensure that what happened to me never happens to another person. Every donation, every share, every prayer is a brick in the foundation of something greater.
This is bigger than a lawsuit — it’s a movement.
Thank you for standing with me.
With gratitude,
Gregory Roberson
