Our family has been rocked by the news that our sweet, happy, and rambunctious little boy has been diagnosed with Infantile Idiopathic Scoliosis at only 18 months old. His curvature is moderate at 28°, but at this young age, it will be progressive while he continues to grow.

The orthopedic specialists want to start an aggressive approach to treatment, with immediate Mehta Casting, to try and correct this curvature and move towards possible permanent correction. These casts would need to be placed in an operating room and under general anesthesia, with a new cast being placed every 8-9 weeks. This casting would be for a minimum of 12 months with the possibility of up to 24 months depending on the response to treatment. Unfortunately, these services are expensive, even with private insurance coverage. With large out-of-pocket expenses for our family, missed days from work, and other non-covered charges, these expenses will add up very quickly.
