December 15, 2024, our Dad went to Patient First with pneumonia symptoms. He was triaged and transported to Sentara Princess Anne for further labs. After repeated labs, it was confirmed he had Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Dad was then transported to Sentara Virginia Beach General to Oncology. He has remained there since December 17th for all the things - CT scans, echocardiograms, bronchoscopy, bone marrow biopsies, blood & platelet transfusions, 7-day 23-hour chemotherapy, around-the-clock antibiotics & Lasix. The latest bone marrow biopsy on January 3rd shows the chemotherapy did not clear the leukemia & he will need a bone marrow transplant at VCU. The goal right now is to get Dad’s platelets & white blood cells up enough to travel to VCU for testing & come home to wait for the transplant.
Most of you know my Dad personally, very active & still working in the family business as a brickmason. Thankfully, his wife’s employer has allowed Trish to work remotely from the hospital & us kids are taking turns sleeping there overnight. It will be in the near future where Trish & Dad will need to travel & isolate at VCU.
We are setting this up for his upcoming medical and travel expenses as well as to supplement while he is going to be unable to work for the foreseeable future.
Dad needs all the love & support right now & enjoys text messages cheering him on!
