❤️ Help Mr. Greg Fight Kidney Cancer ❤️

On January 17, 2019, we received the devastating news that our dad, Greg Lankford, has kidney cancer. Only 56 years old, he’s always been strong, healthy, and extremely active on a daily basis. So when he presented with an array of symptoms in January, the doctor was quick to run a battery of tests. It was an MRI scan that ultimately revealed the massive 4.5 by 4.5 inch tumor that was ravaging his right kidney.
We were referred to Carle Hospital in Urbana to have his cancerous kidney removed. After multiple road trips, consults, meetings, and agonizing holds in lobbies and waiting rooms, we finally had a plan in place and a date this nightmare would surely come to an end.
So, on March 21, 2019, an incredible surgeon and his team worked hard and successfully removed dad’s entire kidney.
Unfortunately, his battle is only beginning. Only weeks into his recovery, dad began experiencing excruciating pain in his shoulder and arm. What we thought was a major rotator cuff injury, turned out to be something far worse. It was then, on April 10, 2019, I held my dad’s hand, tears streaming down my face, as I heard them tell us that he now has Stage 4 Metastatic Kidney Cancer and the cancer has eaten away and weakened his bone so much, that his right humerus bone is broken.
To watch this beautiful man be broken down and in so much pain... A man that is selfless every single day. A man that has touched the hearts and minds of hundreds, if not thousands, of kindergarteners who have walked the halls of the school he has loved and dedicated himself to for nearly three decades. A school whose children and teachers over the years have affectionately come to call him “Mr. Greg”... To see this man go through this, is beyond devastating.
So to make sure recovery is the ONLY thing on his mind, I need everyone’s help! Once again, we have been referred to another hospital with another team of surgeons and specialists. This time at Barnes Jewish in St. Louis. But, the medical bills are mounting and the upcoming travel and lodging expenses are looming. We have one sibling in Texas and just getting him here is hundreds of dollars. We want to try and raise some money so dad has absolutely nothing to worry about except what matters and nothing really matters to us but HIM!
