Today, my father is losing a part of himself.
Literally losing part of his foot in an awful turn of events. An unforgiving year for him has culminated into a nightmare scenario that I wouldn’t wish upon anyone, and whether he likes it or not, he needs our help.
I’m literally creating this GoFundMe from the surgery waiting room because I know he wouldn’t let me do it otherwise. He’s the strong and stubborn type that likes to handle his business and not trouble anyone else with his problems. Some might call it prideful.
Today I’m asking my dad to look past his pride and accept the support of the family and friends that truly care for him. He told me the other day that he doesn’t want to “lean on anyone” for help, but that was the day I told him, he doesn’t have a choice in the matter.
For those who may not know, my dad (Gregg) is currently having surgery to remove all 5 toes from his right foot in order to stifle a nasty bacterial infection that could’ve claimed his life had Danae not done what I’m doing now and call for help. He’s diabetic and has an artificial heart valve further complicating the situation. He will come out of this surgery forever changed.
This kind of thing does not come without a cost of course, and this is where I ask you for help.
Dad has been working 80 hour weeks to make ends meet for as long as I can remember. He doesn’t want to stop working, but he’s going to have to learn how to walk again, so once again, he doesn’t really have a choice. It’s going to be difficult enough for him to get used to the idea of not working for once in his life, much less having the burden of the debt of this surgery looming over him without the ability to do anything about it.
I’ve seen how much you all care. His Facebook post describing the dire situation garnered nearly 200 comments of thoughts and prayers and multiple shares. It brought me to tears. The outpouring of love for my old man means the world to me. And to him.
I told Dad that we’d raise an army for him. I barely had to lift a finger. Phone calls, texts, hospital visits too numerous to count. Again, I now know how much you all care, and have personally seen it. Truly amazing!
Now, in his hour of need, will you continue to help? He keeps telling me about God “dropping a Buick on him”. Must be some sort of old person saying, but I think what he’s trying to say is that he now has a terribly heavy financial burden to look forward to after this amputation. Wouldn’t it be great if he didn’t?
With your help, he won’t.
Please help donate to Gregg’s medical bills for this surgery. Let’s lift that Buick off together!
