Gregg Colvin Medical Fund

Friends of Gregg Colvin want to help raise funds for his out of pocket medical expenses. Following is Gregg's story told by him personally:

On April 13th, 2021 I had what was referred to as a Grand Mal Brain Seizure, but which is now referred to medically as a Tonic-Clonic Seizure (https://www.epilepsy.com/learn/types-seizures/tonic-clonic-seizures). My seizure caused me to collapse on my chest in my office on a stone tile floor in the prone position which made it difficult to breathe due to the seizure activity.

I have been living alone since my first wife passed away in December of 2020. No one was home with me at the time when I collapsed. Luckily, a confluence of events spurred my fiancée, Judy Wasserman, to come physically check on me, otherwise, I would not be typing this right now. I always text Judy "Good Morning" right after I wake up, but the seizure hit so quickly on the morning of the 13th that I did not have a chance to get the text out. I was also scheduled to be on a work call later in the morning that I missed. My co-workers grew concerned and reached out to my fiancée, which caused her to drive to my house frantically. I literally owe Judy my life!

She found me prone on my office floor mid-seizure. Severely dehydrated and in spasms. She immediately called EMS who arrived in just a few minutes. While in the ambulance, I went into cardiac arrest twice. The EMS crew was able to revive me both times with intubation. They are amazing professionals and truly compassionate people!

I was brought to Austin’s St. David's Health Center where the Tonic-Clonic seizure was diagnosed. An MRI scan was performed shortly after I was admitted and it was determined that I have a 5cmx5cmx5cm oligodendroglioma type brain tumor or a calcified mass in my brain. The good news is my amazing neurosurgeon, Dr. Alexa Bodman, was able to make a quick diagnosis and get the surgery scheduled for April 19th, 2021.

On 4/19 I had a partial right front craniotomy with a partial bisection of mass. Below is a picture of the very well-executed incision. Business in the front, party in the back!

I was in the hospital for observation from 4/19 - 4/22. I was fortunate not to have any complications from the surgery and continue to recover. My next appointment is upcoming to determine the next course of action which may include another round of surgery, radiation, chemo, or all of the above.

I’m looking forward to getting back to riding my bikes and spending time with my fiancee and supporting the new Austin Football Club in their inaugural season.

I’m so grateful and blessed to have the support of a wide number of friends and family. All the thoughts and prayers offered up by everyone made a difference I could literally feel. Never doubt the universe has a plan. We are all here for a reason! God Bless You!
