Greg "Padre" Downs
Donation protected
One of Natchitoches’ most beloved residents, Father Greg Downs suffered a debilitating stroke on June 4, 2017. Affectionately known as "Padre," Greg adopted Natchitoches as his home more than fifteen years ago. Padre served as Pastor of St. Anthony Catholic Church from 2001 to 2005, fell in love with Natchitoches and has made it his home ever since. Padre has been involved with hospice ministry and served as a sign language interpreter for hearing-impaired students at NSU.
Padre is known by many as a joyful soul, always ready to provide assistance of any kind, including sage advice and counseling in his most unique and humorous way. Born and raised in Ville Platte, Padre loves cooking, "passing a good time," and surrounding himself with good friends and good food. Padre’s advice on anything, from religion, politics, love, and relationships, always begin or end with a joke, usually involving Boudreaux and Thibodeaux! He is known and cherished by many as a dear friend, counselor, spiritual advisor and mentor.
Padre’s stroke has presented numerous challenges, physical, mental, and financial. With fervent prayer and faith in the Lord, Padre’s attitude and spirit are guiding him as he faces each day in rehabilitation and recovery. Nevertheless, these numerous challenges remain and certain medial and financial needs must be met. Additionally, there will be several modifications necessary to his home to accommodate what we hope to be only temporary disability. Please continue to pray for Padre’s recovery and consider a financial gift to assist in meeting these challenges.
