Hi everyone,
This year has already tested us in ways we never imagined—and now we’re facing our biggest challenge yet. On June 13th, my husband Greg was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Just five days later, he underwent surgery. We were hoping for the best, but the pathology showed a nonseminoma (mixed germ cell tumor) that had already spread to his lymph nodes. He was diagnosed with Stage 2A cancer.
Greg will have his port placed on Tuesday, July 29th, and begins a grueling 3-month chemotherapy journey on August 4th—21 full days of eight-hour treatments. He’ll be fighting with everything he has.
Greg is a brand new nurse, having just earned his BSN last fall and started his job at Upstate University Hospital. Unfortunately, because he hasn’t been there a full year, he does not qualify for FMLA or any job-protected leave. I’ve been approved for FMLA through the school district where I teach, but with only three years in, I have limited paid time off.
We’ve always done our best to plan and be responsible—but this diagnosis has turned our world upside down. We’re doing all we can to stay strong, but the weight of medical bills, time off work, and the unknown is heavy. Our main goal is to get Greg through treatment—and then begin our IVF journey, with the hope of starting the family we’ve been dreaming of.
If you’re able to help in any way—through a donation, a share, or by keeping us in your thoughts and prayers—we would be so incredibly grateful.
Thank you for standing with us.
