Hi, this is Cindy, and I set up this GoFundMe to raise money for my brother, Gregory. As all of you know, I love and cherish each of my siblings, friends, and would do anything to help the people most important to me, and thought this would be one way for me to help Greg.
About 4-5 months ago, Greg had been seeking treatment for what he at first thought was severe constipation, or an intestinal/digestive issue. After a number of visits and consults, weeks/months passed without any relief from those issues, and an increase in symptoms. About mid-May, he became ill over a weekend and decided he had better go to the ER.
After testing it was determined that he did have a bowel blockage, preventing him from being able to eat, and pass food. Surgeons were consulted, and a CT scan revealed a mass in his small intestine, as well as on his pancreas. Biopsy confirmed metastatic pancreatic cancer in the pancreas, as well as in the intestine and peritoneum. This news has devastated our entire family.
Greg endured 2 surgeries and multiple consults for treatment over a 10 day hospital stay, and has lost 60 lbs., from a healthy 220 lbs., down to nearly 160 lbs. He is too weak to work, and is on an unpaid absence as the company he has worked for and excelled at for the past 6 years is too small and does not offer disability, healthcare, 401k, etc. Fortunately, Greg is a Veteran and is able to utilize the VA for his healthcare issues.
He has since been disharged to home, and is on an aggressive chemotherapy regimen through September, at which time the progress will be re-evaluated.
Why We Need Help
Anyone facing a battle with cancer will have countless medical costs, and fortunately, Greg was able to save some money, but given that he is on an unpaid leave from work, will soon run out of savings, and needs assistance financially to continue to fight the cancer, and focus on regaining his health without that concern.
The Treatment Plan
The surgeons and Oncologists that gave Greg his diagnosis have removed a portion of his small intestine where the blockage, exacerbated by the pancreatic cancer, and determined that chemotherapy targeting the pancreas, are/were the necessary steps to treating and managing the cancer.
How Your Donations Will Help
Your donations will go straight toward easing Greg's financial responsibilities, and medical care during his fight. Your donations will be a security for Greg so that he can focus on getting back to being healthy, eventually go back to work, and not worry about financial strain.
How Soon?
Your donations will help Greg, and his family right away.
Thank you so much to all of my family and friends, and I will be posting updates on Greg's progression as they come.
