Greg Hawes '08 Memorial Scholarship
Donation protected
On Sunday, September 25, 2016, we lost a great man, a loyal husband, a wonderful son, a proud brother, and one of the best friends you could ever dream of having. Greg was the type of person who would walk into a room and everyone would immediately flock to him, without him even saying a word. He always had a smile on his face and he was always there when you needed him. It’s been a tough two years for all of us, especially his wife Frances, but we’re getting through this thing called life and it truly wouldn’t be possible without the friendships and relationships we all have with one another.
After Greg passed, we hosted a fundraising event in Greg’s memory to help cover the many costs that lay ahead and to establish the Gregory C. Hawes ’08 Memorial Scholarship at Framingham State University, a special place that Greg called home for four years and where many of us met Greg. The scholarship will be given out annually to a student in the Master’s of Public Administration program, with preference given to those currently working as a Firefighter and/or who live in the City of Quincy.
In order to begin to award the scholarship, the endowment must be met. To put it simply, an endowed scholarship at FSU, meaning a scholarship that will be available as long as Framingham State University exists, requires $25,000. After the fundraiser that we held in 2016, we are currently sitting at $22,500, therefore, we’re $2,500 short of our goal. We’re so close and we’re respectfully asking for your help. We certainly understand that everyone is in a different financial situation, and by no means do we want you to feel pressured into donating. If you have the means to give, even a small amount, we’d greatly appreciate it.
We will never forget Greg and the impact he had on all of our lives. He was brave, selfless, honorable, and a remarkable man whom we are all so lucky to have known. Our hope is that through this scholarship, Greg’s memory and commitment to public service will be honored forever and FSU students will benefit for years to come.
Thank you so much for your generosity!
