FUNDRAISER UPDATE:
Fundraiser Date:   August 22, 2021
Location:                    Buffalo River Works
Time:                            12-5 pm

We appreciate your patience in supporting  Greg and his family and will look forward to seeing you at the Fundraiser.

Greg Franzek is a 25-year-old from Buffalo, New York. Greg is a loving son and a caring brother to his sister Taylor and his twin sister Brianna. Growing up, Greg always loved cars and playing hockey. He spent every free minute he had on the ice, and being as active as possible. Due to a shoulder injury, Greg’s dreams of playing hockey professionally ended, and Greg decided to pursue a career working as an automotive technician. Although his job was physically demanding and at times stressful, Greg always had an upbeat and positive attitude toward everyone he comes across.

In August, 2019, Greg became paralyzed from the waist down after being injured in an automobile accident.  Greg and his father were safely riding their motorcycles, having a Sunday recreational outing.  A driver made an illegal turn and hit Greg head on.  The motorcycle then flipped on top of Greg and his father, witnessing all of this, had to lift the motorcycle off of Greg in order to save his son.  Greg miraculously survived the accident, but after a three-month hospital stay, is now faced with the reality that he may never walk again.

If Greg has any chance of recovery, he will need immediate and constant rehabilitation and therapy. He is currently suffering from a broken jaw, fractured facial bones, broken ribs, a broken arm, fractured spinal vertebras, fractured pelvis, and an aneurysm of the carotid artery.  He has surges of constant pain coursing throughout his body that is consistent with this type of injury.  Most critically of all, Greg has a spinal cord injury at the L1 level.

Greg has maintained a positive outlook throughout all of this hardship. He is fighting each and every day for a better tomorrow, but we know the road ahead will be long and difficult for him and his family.

We are asking for your help.  We live in the city of good neighbors and believe that there is no better place to have support to give Greg hope toward his future. All the money donated will go towards the care and specialized equipment Greg will need to give him a chance to walk, learn a new way of life and create the possibility for a better future.

According to the Dana and Christopher Reeve Foundation, average expenses in the first year for people with paraplegia costs about $518,000.  After the first year, paraplegia costs about $69,000 each year.

Any amount that you can give will be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to financially help at this time, a simple “share” will make a world of difference. Thank you!
