Monday November the 25th 2024 started just like any other week for Greg Forbes. As a long-term Employee at Benton’s Greg was heading into his 30th year with the family-owned business.

He had been managing the Campbellfield Store since Benton’s acquired the Store from W.E. Cash in 2010 and Greg was experienced and well liked by Customers and Staff alike. Like most Trade Staff at Benton’s, he had started on the counter at the Keilor East Store and after demonstrating initiative was promoted to a Management Role.

Life was looking good for the Forbes Family from Beveridge.

So, into the shower it was to prep for the day, like any other. Not long into the shower Nicole, Greg’s wife heard a desperate cry for help, she was in no way prepared for what was about to unfold.

Greg at just 51 years of age had suffered a massive brain bleed completely without warning . He was immediately transferred by Emergency Ambulance to St Vincent’s for life saving surgery the same day. From there it has been a continuous round of hospital visits and rehabilitation on the way to a long recovery.

Only those families who have faced such a monumental health issue can understand the ramifications of such an event. Greg and Nicole along with their young son are now facing a completely different future to the one they planned less than a year ago.

Changes will be required to be made to the home to accommodate Greg's special care needs, as well as ongoing medical appts and medications plus funds going towards the families mortgage.
