Short Summary
My name is Karen Reese and I am a proud mother of 4, community servant, recently retired grandmother. I am 4 years into my film making career. Terry Baccus is a father of 3, the tour guide of Greenwood Ave and the creator of this documentary film.
Terry and I created this fundraiser to finish raising the money needed without any deadline on this platform. We started a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo that ENDED on Dec. 26th, 2021 and we raised $2,455.
This campaign is to raise the money needed to finish a feature film called Greenwood Ave Project “Black Wall Street” (From the People, for the people). It is just important to me and the community of Greenwood because they get to share the history. It is also important to preserve that history which is being wiped away because of Gentrification, and put a spotlight on the growth urban entrepreneur in Greenwood. It is important to me that voices of this community from Tulsa are also heard about whom they are and what they experienced being raised on Greenwood.
With your help, I will be able to finish this project by Black history month 2022. We will achieve telling the story of the history of Greenwood to thousands of people that never knew about the massacre at all. While also educating everyone on the after math of what been going on after the rebuilt of Greenwood in 1925.
What We Need & What You Get
We are raising $10,000 for post production. We need color corrections, editing, sound editing, marketing and a community premiere night.
Whatever is raised would be used to complete the project.
The Impact
My project is valuable because it tells the stories of people from the Greenwood community after the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. The world has not been told about the people who had to live and survive after the burning of Greenwood Ave. We only heard about what happened when it burned. Who are those people? What happened to them? How was living after the rebuild? This is a part of our history that is not talked about. The untold history and American secrets.
I have been producing for the past 4 years and love to promote basketball, football and all sports. In particular, I love producing television and films that focus on sports and building communities in various places especially my home state Arkansas and Texas. I produced an 8 part documentary series called Path to the Draft: 7 DeSoto U Players. I also produced a sports mom’s talk show called “Can We Talk Sports” 2 years ago, that you can watch every Tuesday at 9pm CT on Facebook and YouTube.
No reparation has been given to any of survivor and family of this community from those who destroyed it. No one has been hold accountable for Massacre. Also this story was kept a secret by the survivor because the people who did it still lived in Tulsa. That’s why it is important that this history is told so it doesn’t repeat what happened. The story must be told. This feature film documentary will also leave a legacy for the people of Greenwood Ave.
Risks & Challenges
What qualifies me to overcome is the heart to finish the project. I love bringing stories to the light. I also have four years of production experience and a great team that I work with.
One of my hurdles is raising all the money need to finish the project. We will do all in power to complete this project. What qualifies me to overcome is the heart to finish the project. I love bringing stories to the light.
