Greenhill Orchards Snowfall Recovery and Resilience

Hi, I’m Genevieve Yeomans. I married into the Yeomans family eight years ago, and I feel incredibly privileged to be part of their beautiful legacy. Greenhill Orchards, our family-run farm nestled in the heart of the New England, NSW, has been growing fruit for the local community since 1865—eight generations of dedication, resilience, and love for the land.

But in a heartbreaking turn of events, the orchard recently endured the most significant damage from snowfall since its founding over 160 years ago. I'm sure all us locals experienced the day beginning with much excitement, as our backyards turned into a winter wonderland. I vividly remember walking through the orchard with my husband Tom and father in law Warren at about lunch time, realising the nets were falling down around us.

The damage has been unbelievable, leaving the question of whether the orchardist and his son will still be growing fruit in the coming season. Unfortunately, hail nets (of which they have 3) cannot be covered by insurance, leaving Greenhill Orchards to bear the full financial burden of repairs and recovery. While government disaster relief offers to loan money, it falls far short of what's needed to restore the orchard to what it once was. Rebuilding the nets, replanting trees, and preparing for the next season will require substantial resources that the farm simply doesn't have.

Throughout its long history, Greenhill Orchards has always prioritized giving back to the community, and in recent years they have invested in the knowledge and practices of regenerative agriculture and giving back to the land. I know Warren and Bronwyn Yeomans are deeply thankful for the unwavering support from the community over the decades, which has sustained them through thick and thin. They remain committed to continuing this legacy, ensuring future generations can enjoy the same delicious, nutritious fruit that they are known for. In these challenging times, when all Australians are feeling the pinch, I humbly ask for your help. Every donation, no matter how small, will be deeply appreciated. The goal of $100K will allow for the full restoration of the hail net over the stone fruit and cherry orchard next to the shed. If giving isn't possible, simply sharing this campaign with family, friends, or on social media could make a world of difference by spreading the word and rallying more support. Together, we can help Greenhill Orchards weather this storm and continue thriving. Thank you for standing with this small Australian orchard—your generosity means everything.
