This is my mother's home. It sits on the banks of the Meadow River in Rupert, West Virginia and like so many homes fell victim to the devastating floods that swept through our great state last week.
My grandfather built this house with his own two hands in the late 40's. It's been a safe haven to my entire family since long before I was ever born. Sons and daughters have come and gone but have always known that if life ever got too rough they had a beacon to return to. The door has always had a welcome sign on it. I can honestly say it was the only "home" I ever knew as a child. My mother lived with my grandfather and helped care for him as his health declined. When his his time on this earth was done he passed ownership of the house onto my mom. It was a comfort to all of us to know that the house would continue to be cared for.....and it was....then came the flood.....the thousand year flood. With so many affected I probably don't need to describe for you what she is going through. Picking up the pieces will be no easy task. Especially without the help of flood insurance. It's not easy for me to ask for your help but I don't have any other options. My mother has nowhere to live. She's a 65 year old waitress who depends on tips in an area where most every resident has been touched by this disaster. People are broke and the tips have dried up. We have banded together as a family but there is only so much we can do. I am asking for your help. As much as it pains me I am asking...

Anything you can do will be greatly appreciated. The house was never a castle but it was always a home. Thank you.
