Introduction
The Green Future Initiative is the 2026 annual tree-planting project organized by the Fanta Ansu Charity Foundation to support environmental protection and community development in rural areas of The Gambia. This yearly project focuses on planting trees in rural communities where deforestation, soil degradation, and climate change are increasingly affecting livelihoods. In 2026, the foundation aims to plant 1,300 trees during the summer season with the support of donors, volunteers, and local communities.
Rural communities in The Gambia depend heavily on natural resources for farming, food, and daily living. However, many communities are experiencing environmental challenges such as:
• Loss of trees due to deforestation and charcoal production
• Increased soil erosion and declining soil fertility
• Rising temperatures and reduced shade in villages and farms
• Limited awareness about environmental conservation
Trees are essential for restoring the natural environment. They help improve air quality, prevent land degradation, provide fruits and shade, and support biodiversity. Without action, environmental damage could worsen and negatively affect future generations.
This is why the Fanta Ansu Charity Foundation continues to organize an annual tree-planting initiative to promote long-term environmental sustainability.
The Green Future Initiative is a community-based environmental project focused on planting trees and encouraging environmental responsibility among rural populations.
The 2026 project will focus on planting 1,300 trees in selected rural communities in The Gambia, involving local residents, youth groups, and volunteers.
The project aims to:
• Restore and protect the local environment
• Increase green spaces in rural villages
• Support climate change mitigation
• Encourage community participation in environmental conservation
• Educate young people about sustainability
Through the Green Future Initiative, the Fanta Ansu Charity Foundation aims to:
1. Plant 1,300 trees in rural communities.
2. Promote environmental awareness among community members and youth.
3. Improve local ecosystems and reduce the impact of deforestation.
4. Encourage community ownership and long-term care of planted trees.
5. Contribute to a greener and healthier environment in The Gambia.
The main beneficiaries of the project include:
• Rural communities in The Gambia
• Local farmers and households
• Youth and school students involved in the planting activities
• Future generations who will benefit from a healthier environment
Overall, the project will directly and indirectly benefit hundreds of community members.
The Fanta Ansu Charity Foundation will implement the project through the following steps:
1. Community Engagement
Work with local leaders and residents to identify suitable planting areas.
2. Tree Procurement
Purchase healthy tree seedlings suitable for the local climate.
3. Volunteer Mobilization
Engage youth, community members, and volunteers to participate in the planting activities.
4. Tree Planting Activities
Organize community tree-planting events during the rainy summer season.
5. Monitoring and Maintenance
Encourage community members to water and care for the trees to ensure their survival.
The project will be implemented during the summer/rainy season of 2026, which is the best period for tree planting in The Gambia.
Proposed timeline:
• June 2026: Community coordination and planning
• July 2026: Procurement of tree seedlings
• July–August 2026: Tree planting activities
• August–September 2026: Monitoring and community follow-up
The estimated cost for the Green Future Initiative 2026 is €2000.
