Hi everyone, my name is Jasmine and I run a group called Green Earth. We are extremely passionate about the rainforest and we have found out that it is in danger! We have decided to raise money for the Inga Foundation.

They are a charity that are helping the rainforest by stopping slash and burn farming and planting lots and lots of Inga trees. Instead of relying on burning the forest floor to get rid of the weeds, the Inga tree grows especially fast and the leaves fall to make a carpet of fallen leaves. This shields the sunlight from the forest floor to stop the weeds getting sunlight. The crops can grown through the carpet of fallen leaves but the weeds can't. Because of the trapped moisture, mycelium grows under the carpet of leaves to create a network that the trees use to communicate and look after each other. For example if a baby tree got sick because it didn't get enough nutrients or sunlight it would send a message out and a larger tree would send nutrients through the mycelium to the baby tree to help it. Even if a tree got a disease or parasite it would send a warning out to the rest of the trees to protect themselves. Isn't nature so awesome?

This is why Green Earth feels it is so important for us to raise money for the Inga Foundation. We are going to do a triathlon which includes swimming, cycling and running and it will be a challenge to all of us. Each donation really will help towards protecting the rainforest which is home to the most wonderful creatures!

We have so far done a home made lemonade sale and made some bracelets to sell to make money for the Inga foundation.
