Send Greek-American to Paris Olympics 2024

My name is Nicholas Scarvelis, and along with my brother Steven I am pleased to start this GoFundMe in the hopes of supporting my sister Stamatia in her bid for the 2024 Olympic Games!

Stamatia is the Greek National Champion in the Hammer Throw. Though all of us siblings were born in the USA, we grew up very proud of our Greek heritage. When the Hellenic Track & Field Federation came calling in 2015, we chose to compete for our ancestral homeland and gained Greek citizenship.

Since then, Stamatia has claimed 6 consecutive national titles and represented Greece in the Tokyo Olympic Games (in addition to multiple European and regional championships). In the 2024 season, she aims to break the national record and again represent Greece at the Olympics: this time in Paris.

I represented Greece in the Olympics (Rio 2016) and competed as a pro for a number of years; I know first-hand just how costly training at the elite level can be. In addition to regular training expenses, athletes based in the USA often pay out-of-pocket for travel to and from Europe, where many of the qualifying competitions take place.

Stamatia's training for the Olympic Year is officially underway! In order to qualify for the Games, she will travel to Europe 3 separate times in the run-up. Each of these trips will themselves be composed of multiple competitions and training camps.

In addition, she will require regular physiotherapy and massage sessions, coaching, and facility access to be one of the best in the world.

I am looking to fundraise $20,000 to cover the expenses of Stamatia's Olympic preparation.

Every cent that is donated here will go directly to these training and travel/competition expenses. Your contributions could provide her a better flight, an extra night in a hotel, or one more crucial physiotherapy session.
