Save Great Vegi Land

I was invited by friends to Great Vegi Land for lunch 8 years ago, the food was great!  Many of my friends commented GVL as one of the best vegetarian vegan restaurant in the area; and Victor a very good person.   Over the years, this is what I know about Great Vegi Land & Victor.

Great Vegi Land has been a vegetarian restaurant for decades.  10 years ago, the previous owner convinced Victor who worked as a chef to take on the business.  Since then, it has become a mission for Victor.  He is pleased to provide authentic vegetarian for vegetarian folks.

Victor is an honest, hard-working person with good ethics & conscience, has 40 years of experiences working in the kitchen.  He cooks & serves food in such manner as if for him to enjoy, means no cheating on quality & quantity.  Though the business didn't bring him a fortune, yet he worked very happily, he said that was the best reward.  Great Vegi Land serves classic vegetarian, not only purely vegan, also no onion & garlic.

There was a significant decrease in business the past 2 years.  One of the main reasons was that, a lot of time, Victor was the only one running the show; customers dislike long waiting for the food to be served.  He used to have a very good lady helper; she was married with 2 children. Considering a better future for his helper & her family, Victor persuaded her to learn English and peruse extra education so that she may get a better job.  Surely, she found a good job in a company.  The helper and her husband thanked Victor for his good advice, yet he lost an excellent helper.  He has not been able to find a good substitute ever since.

I stopped by GVL on Oct 23, was saddened to learn about the latest news. Under the persuasion of a friend to jointly open a vegetarian restaurant at a good location with much higher rent at Fremont, Victor invested all his saving on the new space. It didn’t work out due to problem in getting business permit. Victor lost all his saving, and is currently 3 months behind rent for the restaurant space & his apartment. The apartment owner has engaged an attorney to evict him; the property managing company has given him late fee notice for the restaurant space, the business phone line was disconnected by AT&T... Disconnection of the phone line worsened the business even further.

Earlier this year, someone approached Victor with a good offer to jointly run Great Vegi Land.  Towards the end of discussion, the other party added a condition to serve both vege & non-vege, Victor turned down the offer.

Victor expressed deep regret for all the mistakes that brought him to the current situation. He is eager to change the way he runs business, if only he could overcome this critical junction.  He needs to raise $25,000 within this month to keep the restaurant going.  You can help saving GVL by:
