"Great Old Days" is my telling of the story of Webster City, Iowa. It is a community struggling to understand its place in a changing world while trying to hang on to a fading American dream.
This magazine grew out of my long-term personal photography project documenting Webster City, which I began in 2011. In March of that year, the local Electrolux factory, which made washing machines, closed and moved production to Mexico. Some 2000 people were laid off.
The project seeks to print and distribute 1000 copies of a 32-page, full-color magazine free at the inauguration of Donald Trump in Washington, DC.
Viewed through the prism of contemporary politics, Webster City represents the precise demographic of voters who turned out to unexpectedly elect Donald Trump. By giving away the magazine for free at Trump's inauguration, I hope to provoke reflection among audiences primed to hear the story of one town that was left behind.
With your contribution before January 20th, I can print 1000 copies and bring them to Washington, DC for distribution. This will be a unique chance to reach a key audience with the work, using an innovative distribution plan. Let's use this moment to bring the conversation back to real people and real issues.
PLUS everyone who donates at least $5 to the project will receive a complimentary copy of the magazine shipped straight to your door ($10 minimum for international contributors). Of course, if you can spare more, it will help us reach our goal that much more quickly. Ships January 2017.
More information about the project can be found here.
