I am Marta / Ms Hirsch, depute head teacher at Beeslack Community High School with responsibility for the Beeslack Annex.

The Beeslack Annex in Midlothian is a small but mighty setting that supports young people with complex and social complex needs. It’s a place full of laughter, learning and care — powered by an amazing staff team who make every day count for our pupils.

But we want to do even more.

Pupil voice is strong in our setting. We believe that young people will thrive and grow immensely if they feel included, listened to and appreciated. When asked what would make their time spent at school better, our young people have mentioned an improvement to our break-out spaces and sensory corners in their classrooms as well as having access to new sport and play equipment both outside and indoors.

To help make this dream a reality, I decided to run the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon in support of the Annex. Every step and every mile is for our pupils.

Your donation, big or small, will go directly towards creating safe, supportive, and inspiring spaces for our young people to learn, play, and thrive.

Together, we can give our pupils the equipment, opportunities and environment they deserve.
