Great North Swim for the RNLI
Help Us Swim!
Eve, Courtney and I are participating in the Great North Swim at Windermere Lake, near Ambleside, to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). Between us, we will be swimming 5 miles in loving memory of our dear friend and colleague Maddie.
Why We're Swimming: Maddie was an incredible person and a friend to many. During the day, she was committed to saving lives as a lifeguard at Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre. We wanted to honour her memory by doing something that aligned with her love for her job.
More information about RNLI: The RNLI is a cause close to our hearts because their lifesaving work is vital. As the UK's largest voluntary organisation, the RNLI provides a critical service, rescuing people at risk in the water. Whether it’s a swimmer in trouble, a person in a boat, or someone stranded on the coast, the RNLI’s lifeboat crews and lifeguards risk their lives to ensure others are safe. This event is our way of giving back to an organisation that does so much to protect lives and ensure safety at sea and on lakes. The RNLI continues to rely on voluntary contributions and legacies for its income which goes towards beach lifeguard services on over 200 beaches in England.
The Great North Swim: This is one of the largest open-water swimming events in the UK, taking place at the stunning Windermere Lake in the Lake District, just outside Ambleside. This will be a challenge for all three of us as we get back to swimming at training level once again; however, we know we can push through it with your support and do something truly meaningful.
The course has a breathtaking view of the Lake District, making this an unforgettable experience. We’re swimming not just for a personal challenge, but for a cause that will make a real difference to others in need of rescue and support.
How You Can Help: We are asking for your support to raise funds for the RNLI, helping to continue their lifesaving missions. Every donation, big or small, will make a difference. Your generosity will directly contribute to funding the essential training, equipment, and operations that allow the RNLI to save lives around the UK and Ireland.
We’d be incredibly grateful for any donations in memory of Maddie, and for the opportunity to swim for such an important cause.
Thank you for your support, and for helping us honour Maddie in this special way.
