Great North Run - In memory of Kev Madeley

We are 4 school friends, Dave Whittall, Dave Moran, Dave Platt and Steve Tew and we're taking up the challenge of undertaking the Great North Run Half Marathon on 12th September 2021.

We're doing this in memory of our old school friend Kev Madeley who sadly passed away on 15th June 2021. Kev was a fit and well man who was diagnosed with Immune Mediated Cerebellar Ataxia in 2019.

The disease is so rare that multiple Doctors who initially treated Kev knew very little about it and his diagnosis was delayed because of this.

Kev fought an incredibly brave 2 year battle, staying positive and never losing his sense of humour but tragically lost his brave fight at home in the loving company of his family on 15th June 2021.

We want to raise awareness of this disease and raise some money that can be put towards research into this relatively unknown condition.

Greater awareness of this illness may help someone in the future receive an earlier referral to a specialist and hopefully ensure that their family avoids the heartache Kev's family have endured.

Kev's family have lost so much, a husband, Dad, Grandpops, brother and son. They have faced this tragic loss with great dignity but have been dealt a huge void.

We'll be undertaking this challenge in memory of Kev and will be motivated by past memories and also of his brave fight.
