Hi, my name is Azad Miah, I’m 51, and I’m taking on the Great North Run in memory of my mother, who sadly passed away from Alzheimer’s in May 2024.

I’ll be running alongside my son, Riyaz Miah (22), which makes this challenge even more special and meaningful for both of us.

Watching my mother slowly deteriorate was incredibly difficult, and it opened our eyes to just how devastating Alzheimer’s truly is — not only for those living with the disease, but for the families who support and care for them every day.

We’re raising money to support Alzheimer’s research and care, helping to fund vital work that aims to improve treatment, provide support for families, and ultimately find a cure.
