Great Glen Way for OCD Action
Hi there, my name is Ellie Armstrong and this July I will be taking on the challenge, along with my Dad, of walking the Great Glen Way,
A few years ago we walked up Scafell Pike for a wonderful charity called Candlelighters, I knew as soon as I completed that challenge that I wanted to do something else, another way to help those in need. That is why we decided to walk The Great Glen Way for the ‘OCD Action’ charity.
Firstly a little bit about the walk itself! The Great Glen Way is a 75 mile walk following through the Scottish highlands from Inverness to Fort William. This walk is scheduled to take us 6 days. The walk follows along the Caledonian Canal our route will take us through: Drumnadrochit, Invermoriston, Fort Augustus, Laggan, Gairlochy and finally finishing in Fort William.
Now what is OCD?
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition characterised by obsessions and compulsions. These obsessions are unwanted, overpowering and mentally draining, it's a condition that causes increase in anxiety and distress, the compulsions are repetitive and cause individuals to follow these compulsions to reduce the voices of anxiety. I myself personally suffer from this mental health condition. My journey with OCD has been painful and exhausting, the way I describe my OCD is like a puppet master, imagine having no control over your actions, instead your mind has taken over. Many people suffer with this condition on a day to day basis, there are so many different effects of OCD so if you feel like understanding more what this condition means, feel free to check the link below… there is also a link to the charity’s webpage themself, please feel free to have a look over there webpage to see the multiple things this charity does to support so many individuals!
I knew from the moment I became scared of my own mind, I knew this was my time to take action, and I knew it was time for this condition to get the representation it deserves.
Even if you can't donate just being on this journey of raising awareness would mean to world and more to me,
Thank you so dearly for you time
Much love to you all
