Gray Wilson aspirated during his sleep on July 9th, 2015. His father found him unresponsive early that morning and immediately began CPR after notifying EMS via 911. Gray was transported to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Emergency Room and was in grave condition on arrival. Gray was not expected to live. However, the decision was made to move Gray to the Pediatric ICU to keep him alive until his brother, who is a Marine, could be flown in from his duty station in Hawaii. While waiting for his brother, Gray reacted to stories written by his friends and family about their favorite memories with Gray. Doctors changed their treatment strategies in light of Gray's unexpected progress. During that time an MRI revealed he had severe damage to various areas of his brain due to lack of oxygen. Gray's prognosis was not good, but prayers came in from friends, family, local churches, and from well-wishers around the world through Facebook. The doctors have no medical explanation for how he suddenly came out of his coma six days later. The family is grateful for God's gift and for the lives that were touched by Gray's situation. They have been uplifted and encouraged by the stories of hope from thousands of caring people across the globe.  Although Gray has already defied the odds this will likely be a long, difficult, and costly journey. The family would appreciate any financial support as Gray enters into the recovery phase of this trying time in his life.
