Hello all. My name is Marc Sykes and I am writing on behalf of a very dear friend and his family. The Flack family recently experienced one of the most devastating losses any person or family could ever imagine; the loss of a child. Their newest addition, Grayson Creek Flack came into this world on December 11, 2015. Unfortunatley he spent his very short life in the PICU at UNC's Chapel Hill Hospital. He was born with HLH, or Hemophagocystic Lymphohistiocytosis. He soon began Ecmo therapy, dialysis as well as two different types of chemo-therapy. His small but strong heart failed him on three seperate occasions, but miraculously this strong and determined soul fought back each time. Treatments continued and little Grayson never left the hospital. The doctors removed Grayson from the ventilator for 24 hours, allowing his mom and dad to hold their little "Rocco" and make a life time of memories in one short day. On January 22, 2016 young Grayson closed his eyes for the final time and finally stopped suffering. His short but meaningful life was spent in a hospital surrounded by his family and the amazing doctors and staff at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital.
During this difficult time the Flacks had to juggle their lives and time between Grayson as well as their two older sons who still needed the love and affection of their parents. Shane, who is a brother firefighter and Tiffany are now coping with the realization that life must continue for the sake of their children and their family. During Graysons stay in the PICU bills continued to compile on one another and now the Flacks are faced with dealing with the funeral arrangments and additional costs that go along with that.
This Gofundme account is not at the request of the Flacks, although I have spoken with Shane in regards to it. His response was a tear filled nod followed by his saying that he couldnt ask people for help like that.
In the fire service brotherhood is a very real and powerful thing. We strive to protect one another and care for each other day in and day out and that brotherhood never stops. Shane has dedicated himself to risking his life to provide care and aid to complete strangers and today his family needs that same compassion. The Flack family deserves time to cope and heal without having the daily stresses of medical bills and debts.
Any donations will go directly to the Flack family to aid in the paying of medical bills and supporting his two other children. Shane also informed me that any money that remains once the medical debts are fullfilled will be donated to a reputable charity that provides aid and treatment to children and their families in need.
Thank you for taking the time to reading young Graysons story and for any donations, prayers or positive thoughts given to this deserving family.
