We, the workers of Gray Owl Coffee, are pursuing employee-ownership!
Who We Are
Gray Owl has served coffee, loose-leaf tea, and handmade pastries since 2009. In those eleven years we’ve strived to be a community space, one that embraces difference and Norman’s uniquely warm, creative spirit.
Why Employee-Ownership?
Employee ownership means every member of the Gray Owl crew will own an equal share in the stake of the shop; we’ll share management responsibilities and an annual portion of the shop profits. This pandemic has been difficult for small businesses. Transitioning to this model will allow our shop to weather the current financial climate and emerge stronger. We love spending our days serving y’all. Collective ownership will enable us workers to do our part growing Gray Owl into a place that nurtures the community that has nurtured us.
Why We Need Your Support
To achieve this we need support. Your financial contribution will ensure the Gray Owl worker’s collective is an equitable project from its inception. Our goal, $16,000, is the funding we’ll need to cover transition costs. Fundraising this amount will also help us avoid instituting a buy-in for current and future members, a policy that would prove financially discriminatory.
How You Can Help
Even the smallest donation will help us meet our fundraising goal. 2020 has been financially difficult for all. We’re asking supporters to donate what you can. A $5 minimum donation covers GoFundMe’s processing fees. If our regular customers donated $25 we would meet our objective easily.
We are forever grateful to Gray Owl’s current owner, Jenny Vigil. We would not be where we are without her tireless dedication. As the Vigils move into their next life chapter, we hope to nourish the parts of our shop that the community loves while growing and expanding what can be. We’ve been awed by the generosity of our customers and friends throughout 2020. Y’all have shown up for local business even during the most challenging moments of distancing and uncertainty. With your help we can make the structure of Gray Owl more closely match its already-strong ethos of equity and friendship.
