Hello! My name is Evan Gravel and I am a Senior at North Smithfield High School. As a requirement for graduation, each senior is responsible for taking a Senior Project class. Over the course of the year, we are encouraged to work with a mentor in a field of interest, research the topic, and create some sort of final product, all while documenting the process to present before graduation.
Inspired by my work with mentor Josh, as well as his family Bob and Bruce Goodwin from Goodwin Brothers Farm stand, I have dedicated my senior project to the purchase and construction of a greenhouse on the grounds of the high school. I have learned the value of agriculture and the benefit of being able to provide sustainable produce and plants from my years of working during the summer with this family on their farm. The greenhouse structure would allow for science classes to expand their educational programs, and create opportunities for students involved in the Functional Life Skills program. It can also serve as a segway into a new pathway program for the school, as the structure becomes more established.
Here is a link to the article that explains my project in further detail.
In addition this fundraiser, I am seeking physical donations in the forms of gardening supplies, seeds, lumber, and hoses. If you are able and willing to donate any of these items, please reach out to me either by phone (401-309-1997) or email ([email redacted]).
