A Monument for 3 Amazing Women

Three amazing Black women who contributed greatly to the civil rights struggles of the early 1900s are buried in the same burial plot in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. There is no monument on this site identifying them.
Gertrude Wright Morgan (seated in the picture above)was active in the suffrage movement, helped found the Niagara Movement—the precursor to the NAACP--and was a civil rights leader. Recently, the City of Cambridge named a street after her. (Morgan Avenue)
Adina White was an early civil rights activist and was renowned for her wood sculptures.
Nadine Wright Goodman was one of the first Black graduates of Radcliffe College, one of the first Black teachers in Cambridge, Dean of Women at Bennett College, and founder of the Boston Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha. In the 1950's she founded and ran a summer camp for children with disabilities.
The monument that we would like to place on this site will be a beautiful upright three foot stone memorial. The total cost will be $4200. The cost includes an upright stone, the engraving of words referencing the three women buried, and the installation of the stone. All the money we are trying to raise is going to pay for the memorial, as everyone working on this project is a volunteer.
