GrassRoots Art Collective needs your help!
GrassRoots is a Brooklyn-based group of creatives committed to producing new works by the global majority while using art and cannabis to build community, connect, and heal.
Our previous staged work, Islands Never Say, enjoyed a three-night run at The Cell Theatre thanks to the generous support of donors. We’re grateful that we could share a beautiful, original piece with you. We would be honored to have your continued support in our next endeavor!
We are thrilled to be working with playwright/director Samantha Toy Ozeas on their new play in development, Nannyville. Through a workshop process, the cast and creative team will collaborate to bring this work to life– culminating in a staged reading this December.
More about the project, in Sam’s words:
“Jamison, the newest Nanny in the Olsen household, steps into the hurricane to meet eight spoiled children, a mother in dire need of therapy, and two women whose lives were never supposed to lead them to MidCity Boston nanny-hood. As the three nannies desperately try to hold the family together until Mr. Olsen returns home from a 'business trip,' Jamison begins to realize how much the youngest members of the family are sacrificing to hold their mother together, and the lines between self-preservation and solidarity begin to blur.”
Your donation will go towards:
- Space rental for rehearsals and readings
- Payment for artists working in our collective
- Advertising/social media promotions for Nannyville
- Domain costs for a website
While cannabis legalization expands, 40,000+ Americans remain incarcerated for cannabis. Over our past events, we’ve crowdsourced $2,500 in donations to the Last Prisoner Project– an organization that works to release and support those incarcerated as a result of criminalization. As we freely participate in the cannabis industry, it is crucial to work towards dismantling the prison-industrial complex.
Please donate what you can– every bit helps! Thank you for your time.
