Grant Family- SVG Volcano Disaster Relief
Donation protected
On April 8, 2020, the La Soufriere volcano on the island of St. Vincent erupted. Thousands of families and individuals were ordered to evacuate their homes and flee the red zone of the island for government-sponsored shelters in the south of the island, cruise line emergency vessels along the coasts, and the nearby islands of Barbados and Grenada. Those who remained in their homes in the southern region, such as my family and I, have taken in displaced relatives and friends. Still, we too suffer from the toxic ash plume that continues to be emitted from La Soufriere. Water is shut off to prevent contamination. Electricity is intermittent and massive power outages are expected to continue into the coming weeks, maybe even months.
My family and I live in St. George estate between the villages of Ratho Mill and Stubbs. Several of our relatives and neighbors are without proper accommodations, food, water, and medical supplies. While many of us did our best to prepare for this disaster by storing up on water and goods in advance, many more of us simply did not have the means to properly do so. We need your help.
Currently, we estimate that it will cost approximately $10,000 USD to meet the needs of our immediate community--those residing in shelters without adequate supplies and our neighbors also affected by the toxic ash. Masks, water, perishable goods, flashlights, batteries, sanitization wipes, feminine hygiene products, baby products, blankets, and sleeping bags are among the things we expect to have to purchase in the coming weeks. While the volcano has erupted three times already, scientists expect that the worse of it is yet to come.
We, the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, thank you for your support and contribution. We just ask that you give what you can, pass this link along, and keep us in your deepest, most intentional thoughts and prayers.
We will be partnering with Zion Consulting and Diamond Deliverance Assembly to distribute goods.
