Many of you know that a tornado hit my childhood home last Saturday. We lost a lot - childhood trophies, sewing machine, and many other childhood memories - simply gone. In spite of this devastating loss, we remain grateful and tremendously thankful that my courageous mother managed to get all of the grandkids out without any injuries. My mom and the grandkids stayed in the hallway throughout the whole ordeal. My mother raised five children as a single mom in that home and struggled for years to make ends meet with the main goal of keeping us in that home. She was very proud and never took hand-outs. At one point she had three jobs and taught us to work for everything we got. We were so happy to finally install central AC in the house this past summer after living there for almost 30 years without it. The storm took away the home that she had built with her blood, sweat, tears and love. Even now, she is too proud to ask for help, but it is now our time to do whatever it takes and give back to her. Thanks for all of your prayers and well wishes. We are drawing our strength from our community. We appreciate anything that you feel compelled to give as we rebuild our history and legacy for future generations.
