Grandpa wanted to say 'goodbye' to his grandkids

Hi my name is Susan. It is with a heavy heart that my family and I are raising funds for my father Alwyn, who is in hospital with stage 4 bladder cancer.

My parents traveled from South Africa to Canada to come see us, and their grandchildren (whom they have not seen in over 5 years). They were booked to visit us in July 2023, but before they were able to come over my dad was diagnosed with bladder cancer. They had to cancel their flights and they started looking into getting treatment for his cancer. The doctors determined that there wasn't anything more they could do for him. My parents decided to come to Canada to see the grand children for the 'last' time. They needed written approval that my dad was fit and well enough to come to Canada. The doctor who had treated him, gave him the go ahead to fly.

They arrived on Dec. 5th and everything went fairly well up until 4 days before they had to fly back. My dad started bleeding heavily and had to take him to the ER. He was delirious and had to receive multiple blood transfusions. He also had a bad bacterial infection. He's been hospitalized since the 7th of January 2024.

His current physician informed us, due to the advanced stage of my dad's cancer, he will not be able to return to South Africa. We are in the process of figuring out end of life support.

This GoFundMe is to ask for any help with the medical bills since my parents do not have medical insurance. He did not qualify for any type of insurance due to his cancer diagnosis. His medical bills are already very high, so every dollar towards that helps a lot.

All of the proceeds will go towards paying the hospital and doctors bills.
