Help Grandpa Bill Breathe Easy Again

If you don’t know me, my name is Aleyse. I have always been really close with my parents, and we’ve grown even closer since my husband, kids and I moved back to my hometown here in Central Florida to be close to them. In addition to myself, my dad also has two sons, a daughter in heaven, and three amazing granddaughters who absolutely adore him.

My dad, aka Grandpa Bill, has been dealing with Interstitial Lung Disease for a while due to chemical exposure while serving our country in Vietnam.

Due to an inability to catch his breath one night a few weeks ago, he was hospitalized for a few days but was discharged the day of Hurricane Milton, shortly before the hospital locked down. Less than a week later, he had another episode where he felt like he couldn’t catch his breath, so my mom brought him back to the hospital. A scan revealed a mass around his trachea that was compressing it and causing the extra difficulty in breathing, as well as a mass in his upper left lung. They transported him to Tampa General Hospital where they did a biopsy and diagnosed him with Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma, which is also in his lymph nodes.

They have decided to start a targeted radiation protocol for the mass surrounding his trachea soon and keep him in the hospital during it to continue to monitor him closely. Whenever he is able to come home, he will need an adjustable bed as he cannot sleep lying down anymore, as well as oxygen that will not be covered by insurance.

Since the medical bills are already adding up very quickly, I decided to start a GoFundMe to help my parents out financially as much as possible. We are also supporting his body with supplements, healthy foods, teas, and fresh juices, and my mom has not left his side, so my family members, close friends, and I have been taking turns driving the hour to the hospital to bring clean clothes and anything else that my parents need to them. Needless to say, everything is adding up quickly, and I’d love to relieve a bit of the stress of money for them.
